Dancetravaganza 2016! feat. The Flying Polka Dots, Changeling, Jack Mitchell

11:00 am - 05/21/2016

@ Highlands Community Campus

1228 E Breckinridge St
Louisville KY  40204

Coming up in May, it's our second(-ish) annual Dancetravaganza! Ten and a half hours of dancing interrupted only for dinner, with fine bands and fine callers!

Rocking the house with the tunes will be Changeling and The Flying Polka Dots.

The dynamic duo Changeling rocks the Contra world with the power of Celtic music! Featuring Deborah Colon on fiddle and Karl Colon on guitar, they've been described, with good reason, as "the power of ten in a package of two." If you've been with us for a few years, you might remember them for playing our very first (non-annual) Dancetravaganza way back in 2012. ;)

You might not have heard of the Flying Polka Dots, but you've definitely heard of the members! Kristen Planeaux of The Ripples, Kelsey Wells of Turnip the Beet, Martha Edwards of Stringdancer, and Donal Sheets of Gallimaufry will bring down the house with an assortment of fiddle, banjo, accordian, keyboard, flute, bouzouki, mandolin, cello, foot percussion, and pretty much whatever they heck they please!

Our callers will be Jack Mitchell and Darlene Underwood.
Jack Mitchell lives in Durham, NC and recently celebrated his 25th year of contra dancing. He has been calling on a regular basis since around 2002. Since then, he has called in 22 different states and has become known for his fast walkthroughs, clear calling, and for his ability to match dances to the ability of the crowd.

Darlene Underwood-from Cincinnati, Ohio is joyful and energetic. She has been calling for over 15 years and has traveled extensively where she has brought high-energy and wonderful dances to the dance floor.

The schedule will be posted here as soon as it's finished. We will be having Contras with both bands and both callers in all possible combinations, plus waltzes between sections and a special hour long English Country Dance workshop featuring the Polka Dots and Joe Wilkie from Berea.

This year, due to popular demand, we will be offering half day prices in addition to the full day package. The English workshop will be included in the full day cost but will require a small fee if attended with a half-day pass.

(prices split under 30/30 and over)

Whole Day Admission: $20/$30
Half Day Admission: $12/$18
ECD Workshop Fee: $2 flat

Admission is paid at the door, and we don't have a cap on attendance (at least not this year ;) ). Can't wait to see you all on the dance floor!
