LCD's Christmas party will, as always, be held on the third Saturday of December.
Smooth grooves for your dancing pleasure will be provided by The Contrarians from West Viriginia. The quartet of Will Carter (stand-up bass), Paul Epstein (fiddle, foot-percussion), John Longwell (mandolin, saxophone, tenor banjo, fiddle), and Andy Park (acoustic and electric guitars) has been thrilling dancers with its music since 2001. For more details, check their website: http://www.contrarianswv.com/
Calling the dance will be Cary Ravitz of Lexington, KY. Cary probably needs no introduction; he's one of the best known Contra choreographers from this region as well as a fine musician and dance caller who's been in the business since 1995. For more details, see his website: http://www.ravitz.us/
The price of the dance will be $5 for dancers under 30 and $8 for dancers 30 and over. We will have a beginners' lesson at 7:30 PM followed by the dance starting at 8:00 PM.
We will be having a potluck starting at 6:30 PM. Post in the thread below with what you're bringing so that we can hopefully avoid overlap. It would be greatly appreciate if two people could volunteer to bring paperware and plasticware so that we can avoid spending a ton of time washing dishes after the dance.
Also, during the break we will be featuring a performance from the local Morris dance team Angleterre, which features several past and present members of LCD. Morris dance is a lively English dance form dating to pre-Shakespearian times (fun fact: it's mentioned in Henry V) which features choreography using stick and handkerchiefs. For an example, see this video of a modern English Morris team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2mlWZJSGr4
I think that covers everything. See you all on the dance floor!
